Royal Portbury Dock Lock Survey

Checking the size of the Lock...

With the imminent arrival of the biggest ship to dock at Avonmouth for some years, Lansdowne were called in to check the size of the lock.

First of all a network of stns were established down both sides of the lock, thus enabling the team to close the traverse and distribute any error. Each dock wall was shot in reflectorless mode from the opposite side at a chainage of 20m. Shooting the dock walls in this way did away with the need for either surveyor to walk along the edge of the dock, thus reducing the risk to those carrying out the exercise.

The resulting survey (see below) was processed to provide the client with the critical width dims at the required chainage.
